The Long Run

Oh the long run… it is the most important part of my training regime. The long run begins at 3 miles (for beginners) and is gradually increased weekly by a mile. In this way you can build stamina and endurance. Today I am tackling eight miles, this is the farthest I’ve ever run in my life. The philosophy behind the training schedule I have chosen is to gradually increase milegage at a steady incremental rate and thereby avoiding injury (hopefully). The long run is followed by two resting days, you become grateful for these as you tack on the miles. I was previously supplementing my training with advanced mat pilates on rest days but have switched to gentle yoga. I find the stretching and breathing exercises keep my muscles from getting tight.

I keep changing up my running path. Today I thought I would tackle the Lake Washington Loop, it is the kind of day that makes you want to live in the Pacific Northwest…sunny and sparkling with a breeze. I’ll let you know how it goes.
