I’ve been reading Jeff Galloway’s Marathon You Can Do It!. Galloway is a former Olympian and offers concise and easy to follow information. His training schedules are realistic and he is a pleasurable read. He is in favor of slow and steady training in order to avoid injury. He notes, ” Yes, it’s possible to train for a marathon and have a life”. This is the tone of the book. This book is very much geared towards the novice; I learned a lot of valuable information. If you are planning on training for an endurance event or a marathon I urge you to invest in a good manual. Web resources are great, but aren’t always comprehensive. You cannot research a topic unless you are aware of it. For instance, I was really struggling last week on my 7 mile long run until I read the chapter on form, eight miles went much more smoothly with a few minor adjustments in my posture and stride.
