My Back Patio Late Summer |
The private patio was one of the reasons I decided upon my apartment. I can’t believe I lived in the Pacific Northwest- a gardener’s paradise if ever there was, and only planted the occasional basil plant.
I decided to rectify this with my new found space. I bought the largest Tera cotta pots I could find, FYI- Ocean State Job Lot is an excellent source for inexpensive garden accessories. I bought cages for tomato plants. I also decided to build a raised gardening box. I bought a cedar plank, had it cut into two 3 feet planks and two 5 feet planks. I bought a roll of burlap, 8 L brackets, an electric drill and off I went.
It came out wonderfully! I planted beets, lettuces, chard, eggplant, tomatoes, jalapenos, snow peas, and kale, lavender, dahlias, marigolds, strawberries, and a pretty extensive herb garden. I had more successes than failures and will improve next year. I like it, it’s a lot of work, but it is nice to see tangible results. I’ve already begun strategizing next year’s garden.
